2021-22

And just like that it’s time to enrol!

Parents and guardians are visiting the school in Dhaka to buy books and enrol their children. It’s so good to see!

Distance learning will be underway from 26 July.

It’s exciting to see such activity and colour again.

Celebrations

The end-of-year year awards were presented to mark the end of 2020-2021. This included Report Cards, Graduation certificates, Online Learning certificates and Library Certificates. Here are just a few of the remarkable recipients at GEMS.

Happy Bengali New Year

Today is the first day of the Bengali calendar. Bengalis worldwide warmly greet each other saying Shubho Noboborsho.

Normally the nation would celebrate with street parades, fairs and grand concerts as a way to unify the Bengalis to welcome another year to come. Not this year. A surge in Covid-19 cases has sent the country into a strict lockdown.

In our school, Bengali New Year is always colourful and celebrated with traditional craft. This is an example of how resilient and creative our wonderful teachers, and students, are.

Under the guidance of teacher Hosnaara Begum, this class has celebrated the new year remotely from their homes. They still celebrated and marked the first day of the Bengali New Year.

In non-Covid times, one of the most traditional celebrations is a carnival procession. The festive spirit blends young and old, as people wear colorful masks and parade with cutouts of animals to symbolise Bengali cultural diversity, heritage and identity of the people.

Didn’t these students do a fabulous job from home?

Shubho Noboborsho – Happy New Year!

Welcome

We’ve been renovating our Chandpur campus! There are no students here at the moment, due to a nationwide lockdown, but they can look forward to being welcomed by all the maintenance and improvements when they return.
